Nellie and Jon fell in love at Rutgers and showed their school spirit in their gorgeous red, white, black and grey wedding at Rutgers’ famed and beautiful Kirkpatrick Chapel. Nellie wore her sorority pin fastened on the bodice of her elegantly simple gown. The queen of the small detail, Nellie wove their love of Rutgers into everything from their signature cocktail to color-coordinated flip flops to spare her guests’ dancing feet.
My absolute favorite touch, though, was the picture of their new home together that Nellie had framed for Jon along with the key to their front door. What a wedding gift to give to each other!
They did it! They’re engaged! If you haven’t heard the news yet today, Prince William and Kate Middleton are engaged, and there is likely to be a very splashy royal wedding this spring or summer in London. I’m getting giddy just thinking about it!
I remember Charles and Diana’s wedding like it was yesterday. My mom, my sister and I all got up very early and watched it live on TV. We soaked up every single detail and were riveted to the TV set, from Diana in the carriage to her walk in that exquisite gown and veil down the aisle to her prince, to their kiss on the balcony… Dreamy in every detail.
And now there is the prospect of a new royal fairy tale wedding, with a handsome prince and a beautiful bride. I think I will watch it from start to finish, just as I did with his parents’ wedding those many years ago. But maybe this time I will bake a little cake for myself – frosted with thick butercream – to eat while I watch. A little mini celebration in my own living room.
For those of you in NYC who would like to celebrate today, Williams Sonoma on 59th & Lexington is offering an afternoon tea, in the high British style. There will be scones with jam and cream, Fortnum and Mason Tea from London, as well as a representative from Fortnum and Mason from London there to speak. Hosted by Laura Kaye from 4-6 PM. The cost is free.

Too much yumminess for one girl to take. Daily Candy’s Winter Wedding Guide is definitely worth spending your coffee break on. Have fun browsing!
Like many (many) of my girlfriends, I am obsessed with Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series and the romance of Jamie and Claire. I woke up this morning thinking about what a Scottish themed wedding would look like. And then I got hungry and narrowed my focus to cakes. And then I stumbled across these lovely confections. Feast your eyes for inspiration. I’ve heard through the grapevine that tartans and kilts and Scottish themes are IN this season!
This gorgeous two-tiered cake features white roses, thistles, and a tartan spilling down the tiers. By Too Good To Eat in Edinburgh, the tartan itself can be custom-made to reflect your own clan’s tartan!
The following two cakes are by Jenny’s Cakes in South Lanarkshire. I especially like the gorgeous Charles Renee MacIntosh details in the first cake.
It was only a matter of [once upon a] time…
All you girls out there who have dreamed of being a Disney princess, your day is here. Alfred Angelo is teaming with Disney to create wedding gowns based on those in which your favorite Disney princesses have been wed. You really can be Cinderella on your wedding day!
Nina and Hancy chose Chelsea Piers’ Sunset Terrace for their gorgeous and intimate wedding reception, after a ceremony at Church of the Covenant. Sunset Terrace only recently opened itself to wedding receptions, and what an excellent addition to the NYC wedding scene. Linda Bookbinder and her catering staff had things running smoothly from start to finish. The Terrace is blessed with beautiful views of the Hudson, Pallisades, and Statue of Liberty, naturally facing west. The whole evening was bathed in the glow of sunset off the Hudson, complimented by the bright and breezy shades of lemon yellow that Nina chose for her flowers. Just as sunny as Nina and Hancy themselves! The cake mirrored Nina’s bouquet in sublter shades of delicate yellow gumpaste roses, from City Sweets Confections.
BTL DJ Service provided the music, and the highlight of the evening was the MOB leading the guests in a line dance. An elegant group of people, Nina’s and Hancy’s family and friends were not afraid to kick up their heels and have some fun! Check out the bride’s whimsy in the last shot – wonderfully captured by Diana and Elena at DETO Photography – an unusual take on the popular NYC taxi shot: the I DO wedding shoes!
